Ionity to install EV charging points for Cepsa in Spain and Portugal

News
Cepsa has signed a collaboration agreement with Ionity, the European high performance charging network formed by the BMW Group, Daimler AG, Ford Motor Company, and the Volkswagen Group with Audi and Porsche, for the installation of electric charging points at its Service Stations in Spain and Portugal

As a result of this collaboration, Ionity plans to install up to 100 chargers at Cepsa's Service Stations. For its part, Cepsa will be responsible for identifying Service Stations where charging points can be installed and for providing 100% renewable electricity to these facilities. The first charging points will be operational in early 2019.

The Ionity network focuses on ultra-fast charging along the European corridors. Their chargers are compatible with most electric vehicles, by using the European standard Combined Charging System (CCS). With a capacity of up to 350 kW, they can charge vehicles up to 7 times faster compared to regular fast charging (50 kW). As such, electric vehicle drivers can travel long distances without the charging time being a burden on their journey.

Under the agreement Ionity will develop this network with Cepsa's Service Stations being a preferred partner, making it the first operator to offer ultra-fast charging in Spain and Portugal.

For Héctor Perea, Cepsa's Director of Strategy and Corporate Development, this agreement "reflects the company's commitment to providing solutions in the field of mobility, covering all energy needs and offering a fast, quality service, assured by Ionity."

"This agreement allows us to start operating in Spain and Portugal expanding our European high power charging infrastructure in cooperation with Cepsa. Our goal is to enable convenient long-distance travel with electric vehicles across Europe by providing a broad network and premium services that appeal to our customers", said Marcus Groll Ionity's Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer (COO).
