EVBox reopens renovated Bordeaux factory to manufacture EV fast-charging stations
EVBox reopened its Bordeaux facility, which focuses on the production of fast (DC) and ultra-fast (HPC) charging stations, as well as R&D in new technologies such as V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid).
The Bordeaux facility was acquired by EVBox in July 2018 and has seen as rapid growth since. Because of the extension and renovation, the factory can now support the growth plan of EVBox by allowing the reception of about 200 employees.
EVBox, which is part of ENGIE, welcomed over 80 guests from the industry and celebrated this moment with speeches from, among others, Kristof Vereenooghe (CEO EVBox), Eric Stempin (Director of the Bordeaux factory), and Alain Rousset (President of Nouvelle-Aquitaine region). Present were also the Mayor of Léognan, Laurent Barban, and the Vice president of the Community of Municipalities of Montesquieu and County Councillor, Bernard Fath.
With the adoption of electric vehicles going into high gear, the demand for fast and ultra-fast charging solutions has also grown exponentially. Fast charging is especially valuable in settings where an EV driver only stays for a short period (e.g. highway corridors) or a fast recharge is essential (e.g. taxi companies). For reference: with high power charging (350kW), an EV can potentially add 400 km to its range in less than 15 minutes—the time it takes to get a coffee.
Up to now, EVBox's Bordeaux factory, which currently employs 120 people, produced and delivered more than 1500 fast charging stations a year globally (100,000 charging points in total).
“Our industry is growing rapidly, and especially as of 2020 we expect a massive increase in the demand for EV charging solutions. With our newly renovated facility in Bordeaux, we have more than tripled our production capacity of fast-charging stations up to 5000 units per year. We will continue to expand our product range, while also increasing investments in R&D to maintain a high output of new technologies and innovations,” said Kristof Vereenooghe, CEO of EVBox.
