SAIC to build new Cloud Computing Centre in Zhengzhou, China
Chinese automaker, SAIC, has begun construction of a cloud computing and big data center in Zhengzhou, capital of central China’s Henan Province.
To be built on an investment of CNY2 billion ($280 million), the centre will occupy a floor space of more than 1 million square metres when completed. The new centre will be the Shanghai based manufacturer's third data centre in the country and also be the largest.
The data centre will be equipped with 20,000 servers. These servers will help streamline product R&D as well as manufacturing processes for the automaker. These equipments will also support after-sales service, internal control and management, as well as cloud computing and connected services provided by SAIC.
SAIC's manufacturing unit in Zhengzhou has been operational since 2017. The facility has a capacity to produce around 300,000 vehicles annually. The automaker has recently completed an expansion of the plant which is expected to almost double its production capacity.
The company had at an earlier stage signed a cooperation deal with Zhengzhou, according to which the automaker will eventually produce 2 million vehicles in the city.
