Hyundai Mobis and Yandex trial jointly developed autonomous vehicle in Moscow
Hyundai Mobis unveiled its first car based on a fully autonomous mobile platform developed jointly with Yandex, Russian Internet giant.
This is the first achievement since both the companies agreed to jointly develop autonomous driving technology. The vehicle will go on trial in Moscow city of Russia.
Hyundai Mobis and Yandex will expand the number of autonomous test vehicles to 100 by the end of this year. Based on this plan, it plans to pilot the Robotaxi service throughout Russia.
The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for joint development of autonomous driving platform based on AI at the end of March. It was a strategic alliance to speed up the development of a fully autonomous vehicle platform. As a part of the cooperation, Hyundai Mobis is integrating both core components and autonomous driving technology while Yandex is contributing with a high level of autonomous driving algorithm.
After the signing of the MOU, the two companies transformed the new Sonata into a state-of-the-art vehicle capable of fully autonomous driving within six weeks of joint development. Yandex is known to have applied autonomous algorithms to the platform, while Hyundai Mobis has been equipped with autonomous sensors and controllers to ensure the safety of the entire system. Based on this cooperation, the two companies intend to expand service to the global market in the future.
