ElectReon teams up with Renault-Nissan to test wireless EV charging
ElectReon Wireless Ltd. an Israeli company developing smart road technology that wirelessly charges electric cars, has signed a strategic cooperation agreement Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance to develop inductive wireless charging solutions.
As a part of the agreement, Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi will provide ElectReon with an EV, to which the company will install relevant systems which will enable the vehicle to charge wirelessly with the smart road technology.
ElectReon believes that smart road technology is the next big thing in the evolution of global transportation. By completely cutting dependence on traditional fossil fuels, this technology will help in cutting costs while also helping keep the environment clean.
ElectReon makes wireless charging on the move a reality by installing charging coils below the surface of the road. This means that EVs fitted with the right technology could charge on the move when travelling on these smart roads, thereby saving time required for charging the batteries. Such a breakthrough technology could also lead to reduction in size of the batteries installed in EVs, reducing their weight. This would lead to lesser power being required to drive the vehicle.
The wireless charging company is focussing on implementing this technology in public buses which have dedicated bus lanes, subject to approvals from appropriate regulatory authorities.
