Copenhagen gets autonomous buses as part of large EU projects

The AVENUE research and innovation project is now underway. This means that Copenhagen will have a central position on the European card for the next four years.
In parallel with Luxembourg, Geneva and Lyon, Copenhagen will become one of the places where tomorrow's self-propelled transport solutions are demonstrated and implemented.
The Copenhagen part of the AVENUE project will be completed in the Nordhavn district, where residents can become some of the first citizens in the country to have self-propelled minibuses on the street. The goal is to tie the district together with new and sustainable technology that makes it easier to get around the area for the benefit of residents, employees and visitors.
Business Developer at Autonomous Mobility Pernille Amstrup Lytzen commented: "Nordhavn, with its innovative and sustainable profile, is a perfect place to test self-propelled solutions. In the framework of the large-scale AVENUE project, we can test a full scale solution in this exciting urban area.
"With the project, we create new mobility in Nordhavn and bind the solution together with existing public transport, so it will simply be easier to get from their place of residence to, for example, work."
The project will show how self-propelled vehicles can safely be integrated into mixed traffic and meet a need for mobility, which today is not met by existing means of transport. The self-propelled solutions implemented in Copenhagen are also shared to make the most of the road and vehicle capacity. And then of course they run on electricity.
The development company By & Havn is responsible for the development of the new North Sea Quarter, and closely follows the potential of new technologies in enhancing the quality of life in sustainable and innovative urban spaces.
The Director of City & Port Jens Kramer Mikkelsen commented: "Intelligent infrastructure is one of the most important building blocks in urban development, and with the visionary and sustainable profile of the North Sea it is an obvious place to test self-propelled buses, and I hope that the North Sea residents will take the project. It is a shrug of dimensions for Nordhavn that it has been selected for this project, and there is no doubt that the eyes of abroad are based on this project. "
