NewMotion appoints Melanie Lane as CEO
Melanie Lane has been appointed as the new CEO of NewMotion. She succeeds Sytse Zuidema who has held the position for the last five years. Based in the Netherlands, Lane will be responsible for the strategy and the further growth of the electric vehicle charging solutions provider. She officially assumed her new role on April 1, 2020.
Lane takes on the role after over 20 years at Shell where she has worked in various marketing, commercial and business development roles. Starting her new role in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Lane's first priority is with the care of the people, customers and partners of NewMotion.
Elisabeth Brinton, Executive Vice President, New Energies at Shell, said: “Melanie has an impressive track record of transforming businesses by putting the needs and nature of customers at the very heart of her strategic approach. Her leadership will help to ensure NewMotion remains innovative and well placed to support the increase of EV driver numbers across Europe. NewMotion is a critical part of our plans to build an integrated lower-carbon power business that can help Shell in its wider ambition to be a net-zero emissions energy business by 2050 or sooner.”
In the last five years NewMotion has grown from a start-up to become a leading charging solutions provider in Europe. In 2017 it became a fully owned subsidiary of Shell.
“I congratulate Melanie on her appointment,” said Sytse Zuidema. “It has been great to lead NewMotion the past five years, where we have helped move e-mobility forward. We're ready for the next phase of growth. Now is the time for a whole new chapter at NewMotion to facilitate the mass adoption of EVs and clean energy.”
“I'm excited to be joining this team.” said Melanie Lane. “Our NewMotion network and public roaming network are expanding rapidly and will soon reach a new milestone with 150k charge points in the roaming network. This is only the start of the upscaling of e-mobility solutions which is essential to facilitate mass adoption of EVs. We will continue to expand our business to facilitate a cleaner smarter energy future.”
