Around 30% of all BEVs sold in China are Teslas
As per numbers released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), Tesla has sold nearly 10,160 EVs in China in the month of March.
This figure is specially encouraging for the American EV maker since the biggest automobile market in the world witnessed almost 40% drop in sales in March.
Tesla recently reported its best ever first quarter in Q1 2020. The company delivered 88,000 units during this period, beating several market expectations. To overcome challenges posed by the recent outbreak ofCoronavirus, Tesla has introduced various initiatives such as ‘contactless test drives' and home deliveries.
The company is also planning on launching a long range version of the Model 3 built in China. This model is expected to pack in a NEDC range of 650 kilometres and priced at around CNY350,000 ($49,000). Currently, Tesla sells the Model 3 in a Standard Range+ version priced at CNY323,000 ($45,220) packing in a 445 kilometre range.
Tesla's Gigafactory in Shanghai currently produces 3,000 units of the Model 3 in a week. China's decision to extend subsidies and tax exemptions on NEVs for the next two years is expected to largely favour the American EV manufacturer.
Update: Tesla has now officially launched the Model 3 Long Range RWD in China and it is officially priced at CNY366,550 ($51,317), which comes down to CNY339,050 ($47,467) after Government subsidies.
