Tropos Motors commences production in Herne, Germany
Tropos Motors Europe, a subsidiary of the MOSOLF Group, has started the production of electric commercial vehicles at its facility in Herne, Germany, in compliance with all safety regulations for the health of the employees.
In future, up to 3,000 compact commercial vehicles of the L7E-CU category will be produced annually at the new plant in Herne. Initially, 15 people have been employed at the plant in Herne. Around 50 new jobs will be created in the future.
The company initially plans to manufacture two models - the Tropos ABLE ST with an AGM battery and a range of 80 kilometres, and the Tropos ABLE XR with lithium-ion battery, which, depending on the version, has a range between 105 and 260 kilometres.
The compact electric transporters will benefit cities, municipalities and companies that are looking for emission-free, quiet and inexpensive transport solutions for a wide range of applications including not only urban delivery services, parcel services, building management and craft businesses, but also the tourism industry, logistics and agriculture.
In addition to production, Herne is also home to development, after sales, quality management and sales divisions of Tropos Motors. In cooperation with the regional universities, the areas of research and development will also be established in Herne.
Dr. Jörg Mosolf, CEO of the MOSOLF Group, sees enormous potential for sustainable and economically sensible transport options, especially on the last mile and on company premises. He believes that flexible and environmentally friendly vans are required to enable CO2-neutral transport and to reduce noise emissions.
Gregory Hancke, Managing Director of Tropos Motors Europe, said that with an optionally available data box, the company can add connectivity to the Tropos ABLE and use it for a wide variety of digital applications such as fleet management, predictive data maintenance and vehicle sharing.
Charging of the new EVs is possible at any household socket. Since a socket can be found almost anywhere quickly, it does not require a charging infrastructure. The full charging process takes around eight hours.
Both models are 1.40 metres wide and 3.70 metres long with one of the largest loading areas in the L7E vehicle class. With a payload of 565 kg, the vehicles can be used both on the road and in enclosed spaces. The bodies can be converted from a platform to a box version in a very short time using an Easy Swap system. Both models can be manoeuvred in the smallest space and have a turning circle of just 3.96 metres.
