Greenlots partners with Ivy Charging Network to deploy EV Charging Infrastructure in Ontario

News

Greenlots, a member of the Shell Group and leader in electric vehicle (EV) charging and energy management solutions, announced that it is working to install and support the operations of the Ivy Charging Network, a new fast charging EV network recently launched by Hydro One and Ontario Power Generation (OPG) with financial support from Natural Resources Canada.

The deal, which includes the installation of 100 new Level 3 DC fast chargers (DCFCs) at 43 sites along major highway corridors, will enable EV drivers to travel across Ontario. It also strengthens Greenlots' foothold in the Canadian market as the company continues to accelerate its expansion throughout North America.

Greenlots will provide turnkey support to the Ivy Charging Network that includes site acquisition, engineering and design, hardware sourcing, construction, network operation, and maintenance of Ivy's initial deployment of 100 DCFCs. These chargers will be managed by Greenlots' SKY EV Charging Network Software, which allows for remote monitoring and maintenance of all charging ports and balances grid demand. Greenlots' software operates under Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) standards, allowing the integration of different charging hardware to meet the unique needs of all sites and ensure the infrastructure will endure the harsh Canadian winters.

“Close collaboration between public and private partners like Hydro One, OPG and Natural Resources Canada is critical to enabling the transformation of the energy and mobility industries and meeting the needs of today's environmentally-conscious consumers. This project, which includes repayable investments from the Canadian government, is contributing to the establishment of a coast-to-coast EV fast charging network and will remove barriers for EV adoption by increasing access to fast chargers across Ontario,” said Henrik Holland, Chief Operating Officer at Greenlots.

“Now that Greenlots is a part of Shell, we are even better positioned to support these partnerships and provide our customers with innovative solutions that help spur greater EV adoption and market growth in Canada and North America,” added Holland.

“Ivy Charging Network is building Ontario's largest, most connected EV fast-charger network,” said Theresa Dekker, Co-President of Ivy Charging Network. “By the end of 2021, Ivy Charging Network will have 73 locations that will connect the province of Ontario from north to south and east to west. Our wide reaching coverage will help EV drivers travel with confidence and ease to the places that matter most.”

The Ivy Charging Network build is already underway with two sites in operation in the following Ontario cities: Huntsville and Blind River. The company anticipates 43 stations will be completed by fall 2020.
