Renault unveils the new MEGANE E-TECH plug-in-hybrid

News

Renault is giving the new Mégane the benefit of the 160hp E-TECH Plug-in rechargeable hybrid engine. It benefits from a new technology that focuses on energy recovery and is directly inspired by our Formula 1 expertise.

Info

The E-TECH Plug-in technology was developed by Renault Engineering and is the subject of over 150 patents. It uses components designed within the Alliance, such as its new-generation 1.6-liter 4-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors and an innovative multimode gearbox. This clutchless transmission has excellent efficiency and barely noticeable gear changes.

With its 9.8 kWh (400V) battery capacity, the New Mégane E-TECH Plug-in can be driven on 100% electric power at speeds of up to 135 kph. The efficiency of its energy management system enables it to achieve a range of 50 kilometres in mixed cycle (WLTP) and up to 65 kilometres over an urban cycle (WLTP City), without using the combustion engine.

The New Mégane E-TECH Plug-in thus proves its versatility. It can operate without consuming fuel on everyday journeys and is perfect for long journeys on weekends or for holidays. Whatever the battery charge status, the New Mégane E-TECH Plug-in benefits from the major advantages of the E-TECH hybrid system: the systematic use of the electric motor when starting up for improved responsiveness and reduced fuel consumption.

The new Mégane offers a renewed and modernised cockpit. It features new 9.3-inch multimedia screens and 10.2-inch dashboard screens and benefits from all the features of the Renault EASY LINK multimedia system. This system, whose operation is inspired by smartphone use, is designed to be ergonomic and more functional, for ease of use.

To enhance safety and comfort for all, new driving aids are available. These include the Motorway and Traffic Assistant, an autonomous level 2 system that offers comfort and peace of mind behind the wheel.

The new Mégane gains in elegance and refinement, notably introducing new Pure Vision LED headlamps to improve visibility and comfort during journeys. The new Mégane thus reinforces its design and the dynamic lines that have made it such a success.

Available for launch on the New Mégane Estate, the E-TECH Plug-in engine will also be offered on the hatchback version at a later date.
