Tesla developing new model to meet requirements of its Chinese customers

News

Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, recently revealed the company’s plans to set up a new design and R&D centre in China.

Info
The main objective for this decision is to develop a vehicle to suit the taste of Chinese consumers.

A recent post by the company on Chinese social media platform, WeChat, revealed design sketches for the future model. The American EV maker is also looking to hire China-based designers to help them materialise this objective.

Tesla recently began delivering locally manufactured Model 3s in the country. The reduction of prices due to domestic manufacturing has increased demand for the vehicle. The automaker will also commence production of the Model Y shortly. Tesla is eyeing a bigger share in the largest EV market.

Tesla is also increasing localisation of parts in its vehicles to increase margins. The automaker aims to ramp up production at its Chinese Gigafactory to nearly 3,000 vehicles weekly.
