Bosch’s COUP to discontinue its eScooter sharing service
COUP, the eScooter sharing provider established in Berlin in summer 2016, plans to discontinue its business operations in Berlin and Tübingen by the middle of December 2019.
Services in Paris and Madrid are also to be discontinued shortly.
Given a sharing market that is extremely competitive and the service's high costs, continuing to operate COUP will be economically unfeasible over the long term.
COUP has become a well-known brand in the European sharing market. Many loyal customers regularly use its electric scooters and value COUP's high-quality service. However, offering this requires a high outlay (for example for premium vehicles, an intuitive booking platform, supplemental services such as a driving school and city tours). Day-to-day operation, with its battery swaps and customer service, is cost-intensive. However, this is also necessary if customers are to be provided with a fleet in good working order.
COUP customers can continue using the eScooter sharing service until it is discontinued. Customers will of course be reimbursed for any prepaid time that has not been used. Freerides can be taken at any time before the service is discontinued.
COUP employs a total of some 120 associates in Berlin, Paris, and Madrid. Of these, 75 work in Berlin. These will be given assistance in their search for alternative employment. If this is not possible, it is planned to offer severance packages.
