Tesla to offer free charging for new Model X & S owners at its Superchargers
New owners of Tesla’s Model X and S will now be able to charge their vehicles free cost at the automaker’s Supercharger station, the company announced in a Tweet.
Tesla is trying to push the sales of its more premium models which have recently shown signs of slowing down.
Earlier, Tesla used to offer free charging for all its vehicles at the Superchargers. With the increasing sales its vehicles, this free model soon became unsustainable for the company. However, older vehicles with the lifelong offer of free charging still continue to enjoy these benefits.
As reported in its Q2 results, the American automaker has seen a spike in sales of the cheaper Model 3. It shipped a total of 77,550 Model 3s to its customers. The more expensive Model X and S accounted for 17,650 deliveries.
Tesla recently discontinued the base models of the Model X and Model S. Consequently, the prices of the Model X now start at €91,700 ($101,787) as opposed to €83,200 ($92,352) in Germany. The prices of the base Model S saloon has increased to €86,800 ($96,348) from €78,300 ($86,913) in Germany. The company hopes that the increased prices will help maintain a higher margin.
