The facility will be located in Daema Industrial Complex which is a regulation-free zone for the e-mobility industry.

The facility will carry out tasks such as dissembling EVs, evaluating the condition of the used batteries and then eventually recycling them. This is one of the first centres in South Korea where dismantling of EVs and recycling of batteries will be carried out at the same location.

Earthtech has invested around KRW24 billion ($20.2 million) to fulfil the first phase of the project. The construction of the plant has already begun. The first phase is expected to be completed by March 2020.

The used batteries will be subjected to rigorous testing and examinations. Depending on the condition of the battery, it will either be used for stationary Energy Storage System or the precious materials lithium, nickel and cobalt will be retrieved and reused. The company will have an annual capacity of dissembling 5,000 EVs and processing 2,000 tonnes of used batteries.

Earthtech claims that the recycling process will be undertaken indoors in an environmentally friendly manner.
