Ola receives approval to ply electric three-wheeler taxis in Cardiff
Ola Cab’s application to ply a Clean Motion’s Zbee as taxis in Cardiff, Wales has now approved by the City Council.
The India based ride-hailing giant has been granted permission to use the three-wheeled Zbee through a specially developed ‘Private Hire license' for electric tricycles in the central parts of Cardiff.
Clean Motion will be delivering these vehicles as a part of a pilot programme in the UK by Ola Cabs. The taxi company says emission-free, electric-powered vehicles have a unique design that would make them ideal for short transport within cities and contribute to an efficient mode of transport around the UK.
Discussions are still ongoing between Clean Motion and Ola Cabs about how the pilot will be implemented, although the permit applies to about 20 vehicles with the purpose of evaluating the business model and to enable a national roll-out in the UK.
The Zbee can seat three people with ease and features a protected luggage compartment. The parking brake has a lock and protects the vehicle from theft. The state-of-the-art FRP (Fibre Reinforced Plastic) material strike the perfect balance between lightness and safety. Also featuring three point safety belts, Zbee is many times safer than other lightweight vehicles.
Ola Cabs is one of the world's largest taxi platforms and operates in over 125 cities around India. They also operate in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
