Tata Group to set up EV battery manufacturing facility in India

The parent company of Indian automaker, Tata Motors, is all set to open a battery manufacturing unit to further its EV activities in the country. To be located at the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR) in Western state of Gujarat, the plant will be built with an investment of INR40 billion ($600 million).
The Tata Group has already acquired a parcel of land measuring 126 acres in Dholera on which the plant is to be built. The company plans to invest INR10 billion ($150 million) in the first phase of the project. The total capacity of manufacturing Lithium-ion batteries at this facility would be approximately 10GW.
The Indian Government is expected to announce incentives for domestic battery manufacturing pretty soon. The Government has also been encouraging manufacturers to produce EV components domestically. Automakers like Hyundai have already announced their plans to source EV components locally for consumption within the country as well as exporting them.
Tata Motors recently launched the Tigor EV for fleet customers in India. With the recent announcement of reduction of taxes on EVs in India, the company is working towards launching their offerings for private customers as well.
