Ridecell’s mobility platform to power GIG Car Share
Ridecell Inc., the leading platform for shared and autonomous mobility operators, announced that an enhanced version of its mobility platform designed for the unique requirements of EV fleets is now powering a major expansion of GIG Car Share, the free-floating car sharing service powered by AAA Northern California.
With 260 all-electric Chevy Bolts, the now fully operational service in Sacramento California is the USA's largest all-electric car share fleet. A central component of the green mobility strategy adopted by the City of Sacramento, GIG Car Share will help the city reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality, and increase traffic flow.
“GIG Car Share has been working closely with Ridecell since our initial service launch in 2017,” explained Jason Haight, President, GIG Car Share. “The Ridecell platform has enabled us to quickly roll-out new service regions and improvements to the overall Member experience. With the addition of this new market, we are now connecting the Bay Area and Sacramento with the nation's first inter-regional, free-floating car share service.”
The all-electric GIG Car Share service was formed through a collaboration between GIG Car Share, Volkswagen subsidiary Electrify America, and the City of Sacramento. The service allows drivers to pick-up and drop-off one of 260 all-electric Gigs anywhere inside a 13-square mile HomeZone for as little as $0.40 per minute which includes street parking, charging, and insurance.
Since its launch in 2017, the Ridecell platform has enabled GIG Car Share to scale to 7 cities in California. The Ridecell platform is uniquely designed to easily build profitable shared mobility businesses. For the Sacramento launch, the platform was able to support the unique requirements of the service by adding key features, including parking report automation and charging point information.
“We are very excited to be the shared mobility platform provider for this green mobility initiative adopted by the city of Sacramento,” said Aarjav Trivedi, CEO of Ridecell. “The programme promises to significantly reduce emissions and traffic congestion in a major metropolitan region. Ridecell is thrilled to be working with GIG Car Share on this multi-year journey to bring car sharing to users throughout California.”
