Uber partners with Indian micro-mobility start-up Yulu

News

As part of a pilot programme, Uber has tied up with leading technology-driven mobility platform Yulu to provide users the option to ride e-bikes and bicycles in Bengaluru.

These e-bikes can clock a speed of 25 km/hr and users don't even require a licence to ride one of these.

Pollution levels in most Indian metropolitan cities are among the highest in the world. Traffic speeds in those cities, not surprisingly, are under 20 km/hr on an average. One could almost say you could bike to work faster. So, Uber is now giving its users the added option of doing it while also reducing the carbon footprint.

Using IoT as the backbone of the operation, these dockless bicycles can be rented seamlessly on a pay-per-use basis. Cities in India are seeing traffic get more clogged by the minute, and these micro-mobility options would go a long way in reducing traffic snarls, saving time for the riders, and reducing carbon emissions. Traveling to and from the urban centres and metro stations cities like Bengaluru will get a whole lot faster. Through this tie-up, Uber riders can book e-bikes and bicycles in just a few taps.

The Yulu e-bikes can be unlocked with QR codes on the user's device, thereby enabling easy pick up and return throughout the urban centres of Bengaluru. Along with being environment and traffic friendly, these self-ride e-bikes are also pocket friendly, taking into account the varying needs and budgets of the consumer. Uber believes that the push towards electrification has to be multi-modal, and the collaboration with Yulu only goes to demonstrate the intent therein.

All a user needs to do is to hop on to the e-bike or bicycle and tap on the ‘Try Yulu' option on the Uber app and follow the prompts.
