Carsharing platform Free2Move now has more than 10,000 users in DC area

News

When PSA’s Free2Move Carsharing Services chose Washington DC as its launch city and national headquarters late last year, it was PSA North America’s first customer-facing venture in the US.

Since then, Free2Move has established itself as a recognised mobility leader with 600 vehicles serving more than 10,000 registered members in DC-area - and has begun collecting exclusive intelligence that promises to strengthen its growth into new markets.

“Our progress to date is the direct result of Free2Move's investment in the Washington DC community, in terms of on-the-street mobility services for members as well as our team of unique and diverse employees,” said Michel Stumpe, CEO & President of Free2Move. “We're proud to have successfully extended PSA's global Free2Move brand to North America.”

Free2Move Carsharing currently fields a 600-vehicle fleet, consisting of 200 Chevy Equinox vehicles, as well as 400 Chevy Cruze sedans—catering to the city commuter, as well as the weekend traveler. As a “free-floating” business model (compared to a “station-based” model) Free2Move vehicles are strategically positioned on city streets, as compared to station-based vehicles which are located in parking lots and garages. This positioning allows consumers to more conveniently and efficiently access Free2Move vehicles, increasing time efficiency and decreasing costs associated with transitioning in and out of the vehicles.

With vehicles on the street, Free2Move has also enjoyed a rapid increase in brand awareness with consumers who see the vehicles and can more quickly visualise how the convenient locations of the vehicles can integrate and add value to their mobility needs. Early survey data suggests that almost 70% of Free2Move's registered members first learned about Free2Move from vehicles they saw on the road.

“As the first customer-facing service for PSA in North America, our efforts to meet customer expectations in this relatively new mobility space is imperative,” said PSA North America President and CEO Larry Dominique. “As we expand our mobility offerings into other services - and eventually Peugeot-branded vehicles - our smart, patient approach to the North American market is already being realized.”

Free2Move Carsharing is an extension of PSA's global Free2Move brand, which provides mobility solutions in 12 countries via 65,000 vehicles (cars, scooters and bikes) to over 1.3 million customers.
