Škoda offers a glimpse of the Vision iV in Geneva

News

The Škoda Vision iV is a fully electric four-door crossover-coupé, the brand’s first car built on the Volkswagen Group’s modular platform for electric vehicles (MEB). The production car evolving from this study will be made in 2020.

The Škoda Vision iV makes no bones about its origins right from the off. The robust look, dynamic accent lines and athletic body combine with the outstandingly spacious interior to leave no one in any doubt that this is a Škoda. The study's calling card is a horizontal light strip running across the upper part of the grille to link up the LED matrix headlights.
“The Vision iV study offers a foretaste of our future electric-car family. It is emotionally charged and distinctive, yet also practical. We have concentrated on delivering aerodynamics, a sporty impression and a dynamic look without losing sight of the need for the roomy, user-friendly interior typical of a Škoda,” said Oliver Stefani, Head of ŠKODA Design.

“New features such as the front horizontal light strip make the Vision iV's appearance unmistakable. Another striking component is the hexagonal closed grille with slender vertical slats. The blend of traditional and new design features underpins the Vision iV's exceptionality while showing that we are prepared for the future,” adds Stefani.

The car's rear section is dominated by an aerodynamic lip spoiler and crystalline LED tail lights that reinterpret Škoda's signature C-shape lighting. They work in tandem with the light strip running across the full breadth of the distinctive diffuser to visually widen the car. Another striking feature is the blazing-red glass Škoda name in letters on the electrically operated tailgate.

Not even the handles interfere with airflow because the doors feature touch opening. On top of that, the Vision iV study replaces wing mirrors with cameras mounted in shark-fin holders.

The Vision iV's very roomy and airy-looking interior has borrowed and run with the Vision E study's design elements. With no tunnel console to get in the way, a new layout for the dashboard and centre console has been possible.

The dashboard is visually split into two layers. The upper layer is dominated by a large infotainment system display that appears to be hovering in mid-air. The surface of this layer has been given a specific softened finish reminiscent of a crystalline structure and is set to be used in all future ŠKODA models. The lower part of the dashboard is graced with matte birch-white décor that replaces the classic vents and creates a sensation of natural airflow.

The car is powered by two electric motors, one on the front axle, the other on the rear. Together, they deliver system power of 225 kW (306 PS), which is transmitted to all of the wheels as required. The maximum range in WLTP mode is 500 km and the battery can be charged to 80% capacity in 30 minutes.

The Vision iV is endowed with laser and radar scanners and, in the right circumstances, it can also handle autonomous driving and self-parking.
