Daimler and Tesla in talks to collaborate on electric vans
German automaker, Daimler, and electric vehicle specialist, Tesla, have been reported to be in talks with each other on a possible collaboration to develop electric vans.
Dieter Zetsche, CEO of Daimler, spilled the beans in an interview saying that talks were already on with Tesla to develop the electric version of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van.
Neither of the companies have revealed the nature of collaboration they are planning to go ahead with. But the revelation that talks are already underway could mean that some sort of clarity on the progress is expected sooner than later.
Earlier in November Elon Musk had stated that his company would be very well interested in co-developing an electric version of the Sprinter van.
Tesla used to supply battery packs for Daimler's electric car brand ‘Smart'. Daimler also held a stake in Tesla of less than 10% which it later decided to sell in 2014.
