Toyota to start producing batteries for hybrid cars in Thailand

News

Toyota is setting up a production base for hybrid vehicle batteries in the central province of Chachoengsao, east of Bangkok, Thailand, where it already has a final vehicle assembly plant.

Info

The key battery parts will be procured from outside Thailand and assembled along with related car parts in the country. Operations in this plant are set to begin in 2020.

Toyota is investing in battery manufacturing since it expects a growth in the sales of electric vehicles in Thailand due to the tax incentives provided by the government. The carmaker also aims at selling about 4.5 million units of hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles by 2030.
