Transportation as a service (TaaS) has developed rapidly since 2010, and most of the top players were established between 2009 and 2013.
Currently North America is the largest market and Uber currently holds over 80% market share (as of the last quarter of 2016). Other players such as Lyft however are developing rapidly and in July 2017, Lyft could reach 20% share in the US.
Europe is also developing rapidly, with several players dominating the European market. These include Yandex in Russia, Uber and Gett in the UK market, BlaBlaCar in France and Mytaxi in Germany. The report suggests these European local players will maintain the leading position going forward.
China's leading player is Didi Chuxing but diversified competition and the provision of better services has also enabled further smaller players to gradually expand their market size.
The Indian market is dominated by Indian Ola Cabs, while Southeast Asia is dominated by Grab Taxi.
Dubai's Careem is the dominant company in the Middle Eastern market having a presence in 80 cities in 13 countries in the Middle East, North Africa, Turkey and Pakistan, by the end of Jul 2017.
